Welcome to the world of Cristina Scabbia I have decided that it's about time for me to join the 21st century and try one of these online journals for a change. I figure if nothing else comes out of it it might be a good way for me to make friends. Possibly have a social life outside the band for once.
I suppose the best way to start this out would be by giving you my name. Cristina Scabbia, a name I'm sure many of you have probably never heard before. I come to you from Milano, Italy as part of the band Lacuna Coil of which I am the female vocalist for.
The legend of Lacuna Coil started almost 15 years ago in 1994, with just me, doing female vocals, Andrea Ferro, my dear best friend and co founder of the band doing male vocals, as well as a small amount of guitar playing and Marco Coti Zelati, another dear friend and ex fiance of mine, alternating between keyboards and bass. We were originally called "Sleep of Right" then later changed our name to Ethereal, which is what we were known as when Century Media recording label offered us a deal back in 1997. Unfortunately, the name Ethereal was already taken so we decided on Lacuna Coil. For those of you who don't already know the english translation of Lacuna Coil is empty spiral, a psyeudonym for how I see my life at times. With the release of our self titled EP in early 1998 we were finding ourselves in desperate need of more instrumentalists before the start of our first tour with Moonspell. We just happened to be lucky enough to find guitarist Cristiano Migliore and drummer Cristiano "Criz" Mozzati, who played the tour with us and after that became official members of the band.
Following a second European tour with "Skyclad" second guitarist Marco "Maus" Biazzi was added to the band. We recorded our first full length album "In A Reverie" which was released in 1999. This newly released album bought us more recognition then we ever could have dreamed of, landing us yet another European tour. In 2002 a second full length album titled "Comalies" was released bringing you the often heard singles "Heavens A Lie" and "Swamped". With those two singles bringing us radio play and often seen videos on MTV, we found that the band had started to become more mainstream in both Europe and The United States. I can remember sometimes sitting at home or in the plane or on a tour bus if we were out touring, thinking is this really happening? Did I really just hear my own voice on the radio? And not just any radio, American radio none the less? By 2004 we were even more shocked to discover that "Comalies" had become the best selling album ever on the Century Media label, which managed to land us a spot on Ozzfest last year. I mean holy shit, it's Ozzfest. It may not be all that huge of a deal now, but back then it sure was. We spent the rest of that year, and a small amount of the next doing headlining tours through the United States and Europe.
A good portion of 2005 we spent locked away in a studio in Italy working on our next creation "Karmacode". We had originally thought about releasing it sometime in the middle of that year, but later decided to give ourselves more time for proper production, as well as avoid the already crowded summer release schedules. "Karmacode was released to the US and to Europe on April 4, 2006. The first single and video, "Our Truth" was released just before the release of the album and was featured on the movie "Underworld Evolution". Much to our amazement "Karmacode" debuted on Billboard charts at #28. #28, can you believe it? On a US chart. I still can't believe we've managed to gain so much popularity in the United States. With the release of our album causing so much buzz, we set out on a short tour with Rob Zombie followed by a stint on the ever popular Ozzfest once again. Always good times on that festival. I swear every year the bands on that tour get better and better. We also played at the 2006 Download festival along side of Metallica, Guns and Roses and Tool and later on we played one night in the UK at Sheffield Corporation on October 17, 2006. December, we got a chance to team up with In Flames, The Sword and Seemless for a US Tour, as well as The Blackest of the Black 2006 Tour with headlining act Danzig, and bands like Asesino, Belphegor, and The Haunted. In March of the next year we played alongside Stone Sour and Shadows Fail on the Jagermiester music tour. We had intended to head straight into The Hottest Chicks in Metal Tour 2007 with Within Temptation and The Gathering, but before that decided to depart from the original tour dates, making a stop in Raleigh, North Carolina in early April to play with area bands Wounded Soul and Blatant Disarray, and with Shadows Fall. We again departed from the tour schedule in Albuquerque, New Mexico in late April and played at the Sunshine Theater there with Stolen Babies, Beneath the Sky and Shadows Fall. In October of 2007, for the first time ever, we played in Japan during the Loudpark Festival 07 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama City. In November 2007 we joined with Megadeth, Devildriver, Static-X and Bring Me The Horizon for the Australian Gigantour.
Ever since then we've pretty much been working on our 4th coming album set to come out sometime this September if all goes our way. Yup, that's right. Skipping the summer releases by just a smidgen. During that time I've also done a few little side projects of my own. A duet with Alter Bridge, which you can find more info about on my myspace page and a video called "Spasimo" for Rezphonic, which is a benefits group lending support to the people of Kenya. You can also find more info on that at my myspace page. No worries, I'll send you a link to my myspace page in a few days, incase any of you are actually interested in it.
Personally I'm a very shy person at first, a friendly person but a shy person. I don't like getting into trouble or starting gossip or anything like that. I do like making friends and meeting new people I just don't usually feel comfortable approaching people. I feel very self conscious in front of new people but I assure you if you talk to me I will definitely talk to you back. At 34 years old, I'm probably older then a lot of you around here. Not that I mind any, I'm fairly used to it really. I don't mind people calling me by whatever nicknames you creative people can come up with, so feel free to if you want to. Just don't call me anything rude or mean. Chances are I'll answer you. I still like doing things like hanging out with friends, partying and drinking occasionally. I'm currently single and searching, although not desperately. However, doesn't everyone want some one to make them feel loved? As I mentioned earlier, for quite a long time I was engaged to Marco Coti Zelati, the bassist of Lacuna Coil. We had a bit of an on and off thing going for quite some time then just recently due to mixed emotions and a few other problems finally decided to end our engagement and just remain friends. I am full blooded Italian which means I speak the language fluently I do speak English fluently as well, but don't be surprised if you catch me rambling off in Italian if I'm not in the greatest of moods. However, I'm almost always in a good mood so don't be afraid to talk to me.
Purify Cristina please use it often. I really do look forward to making friends around here.
